Vietnamese labels will be available in the US market by the end of this year.

If the US's technical and standard requirements are completed early, longan will be exported this year.

Regarding the fact that the US Department of Agriculture has just officially granted licenses for Vietnamese lychees and longans to be exported to this market, Mr. Hoang Trung, Deputy Director of the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that this is good news for farmers, not only opening up opportunities for lychee and longan growers in particular but also for many other agricultural products in general in diversifying export markets.

According to Mr. Trung, to help farmers cultivate according to technical procedures and meet the requirements of importing countries, especially demanding markets like the US, the Plant Protection Department focuses on supporting and guiding localities and farmers in lychee and longan growing areas on care and techniques.

Vietnamese longan has been licensed for import into the US.

Since the lychee season in the North has ended, the Department will first implement this for longan growing areas in the southern provinces and cities. Before officially exporting the above two fruits, the Plant Protection Department will coordinate with the US quarantine agency in Vietnam to develop a list of lychee and longan growing area codes in the North and South; and require export processing factories to complete the "irradiation map" for these agricultural products.

“If the requirements on standards and techniques from the US market are completed early, the longan will be exported first. It is expected that if everything goes smoothly, especially if the results of the “irradiation map for longan” sent to the US are approved, this will be the basis to encourage businesses to sign longan export contracts this year,” Mr. Hoang Trung affirmed.
