According to information from the US e-Bay sales site, after 10 days of online auction, the book "Action Comics No. 1" was sold to ComicConnect Group for the exact amount of 3,207,852 USD.
This is the highest price ever paid for a comic book at auction, surpassing the previous record of $2.1 million for another copy of "Action Comics No. 1" sold in 2011.
There are only about 50-100 copies of "Action Comics No. 1" in existence in the world today, and Washington state collector Darren Adams's item is one of the best preserved.
The cover shows the iconic red-caped hero hoisting a car over his head. The original owner of the ancient book claims his purchase is “the best copy in existence” and deserves international recognition. The rating agency gave the publication a 9 out of 10 on its scale of condition for ancient comics.
However, despite being the world's most famous superhero and the character who sparked the billion-dollar global superhero comic phenomenon, Superman is still not the world's most expensive comic book.
The record was set by a 1937 two-page spread by Belgian artist Herge, which featured the adventures of the detective Tintin and his dog companion Snowy. It sold for $3.58 million in May.
