Stealing a motorbike to find a lover

(Baonghean.vn) - On January 23, the People's Court of Nghia Dan district tried the case of Ha Thi Thuong, born in 1995, Thanh ethnic group, residing in Nam Thai hamlet, Nghia Long commune, Nghia Dan, for robbery.

Ha Thi Thuong had a lover in her hometown, but after working at Samsung in Bac Ninh, she fell in love with a local man there. In August 2014, Ha Thi Thuong returned to register her marriage with Mr. Duong (her lover from the same hometown). Ha Thi Thuong missed her lover in Bac Ninh so she lied to her parents that she had money in Bac Ninh and had to go get it to spend. The family gave Ha Thi Thuong 1 million VND to go to Bac Ninh to get the money as Thuong said.

On September 4, 2014, Ha Thi Thuong went to the house of Ha Van Uong, the husband of Thuong's cousin, to visit. At around 10 p.m. the same day, seeing Thu (Mr. Uong's wife) going out, Thuong told Mr. Uong that she was taking Thuong home. After taking the motorbike out to the yard, Mr. Uong was stabbed in the neck by Thuong with a fruit knife. Then Thuong ran into the kitchen and was chased by Mr. Uong. Thuong continued to stab the victim in the neck, causing the knife to stick into the victim's neck. Ha Thi Thuong ran out to the yard, stole Mr. Uong's Nouvo motorbike and drove to Bac Ninh province with her lover. She was then arrested by Nghia Dan police while staying with her lover. Mr. Ha Van Uong was taken to the emergency room and has now recovered.

At the trial, Ha Thi Thuong bowed her head, admitted her guilt and repented. Ha Thi Thuong's family also compensated Ha Van Uong's family 24 million VND.

In response to Ha Thi Thuong’s crime, the Nghia Dan District People’s Court sentenced Ha Thi Thuong to 8 years in prison for robbery. The trial received widespread public attention, and the verdict was consistent with the people’s wishes and was a deterrent to those who had intended to rob property.
