Former Ukrainian Minister: Kiev's Sanctions Benefit Russian Military Industry
Thanks to the termination of military-technical cooperation with Kiev, Russia has sought to establish a number of production enterprises in the military-industrial complex. This was stated by the former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov.

As Suslov notes, Russia, after imposing a ban on the supply of Ukrainian components, organized a "massive import substitution."
"We believe that the refusal to supply engines for helicopters is intended to destroy the entire industry, but in fact, Russia has created a domestic industry for the production of helicopter engines," the former Ukrainian minister confirmed.
Ukraine's refusal to supply power plants for warships, which was supposed to “destroy the entire fleet construction in Russia,” actually only delayed the delivery from year to year, he pointed out, and as a result, Moscow created its own engine industry.
“They have made enormous efforts to make up for this. And they have been able to do it, which we could not,” the former minister concluded.
Ukrainian President Piotr Poroshenko on June 16, 2014 ordered a ban on all cooperation with Russia related to the military-industrial complex.
In this connection, the import substitution program began to operate more actively in Russia. Last September, Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov announced that Russia had completely replaced components for military equipment purchased from Ukraine with domestic equivalents.
