Former police officer pawned car to buy drugs
Receiving an "order" for crystal meth, Nam drove his car to Thai Nguyen and pawned the car for 150 million VND to buy the goods.
According to the first instance verdict on October 9 of the Hanoi People's Court, during his time working as a police officer in an inner-city district, Doan Hai Nam (31 years old) also led a group that traded crystal meth.
In August 2017, Le Thi Thuy Dung (32 years old) received a message from Nguyen Thi Cam Nhung (46 years old) that a customer wanted to buy 50 grams of crystal meth (both Dung and Nhung were underlings receiving "orders" for Nam).
Due to mishearing, Dung told Nam the quantity was 500 grams of drugs. Nam quoted the price as 53 million VND for 100 grams.

To get drugs, Nam invited his friend to drive to Thai Nguyen to get the goods. He pawned the car for 150 million VND and then went with his friend to the meeting place to buy crystal meth.
After receiving the goods, Nam mixed 8 grams of ice with "ice embryo" to make 400 grams, packaged it in a disguised package like a tissue box and gave it to Nhung and a young man to bring back to Hanoi to deliver to the customer.
Because the customer complained that the drugs were of poor quality, Nhung and this young man brought the goods back to Thai Nguyen to return to Nam. At that time, Nhung and her accomplices were arrested.
According to the court, Nam played a key role, but the defendant was sincere and helped the police solve another drug case, so he was considered to have "atoned for his crimes by making merit."
The court sentenced Nam and Dung to 18 years, Nhung to 19 years; the remaining two defendants received sentences from 15 to 18 years for the same crime.Illegal drug trafficking.
