Former Russian police officer Mikhail Popkov, nicknamed 'the werewolf', recently confessed to investigators that he had murdered 59 women.

Police found many of the bodies of the unfortunate victims through the details provided by Popkov.

With 59 victims, Mikhail Popkov has been ranked among Russia's most notorious serial killers, including Andrei Chikatilo, nicknamed "the butcher of Rostov," who killed 53 people, and "the chessboard killer" Alexander Pichushkin, who killed 49 people.

During his 16-year crime spree, Popkov sexually assaulted young female victims before taking their lives with weapons such as knives, axes and screwdrivers.

The sick man Popkov took advantage of his police uniform to lure drunken victims who had just come out of nightclubs into his patrol car, pretending to take them home but instead taking them to remote areas to commit depraved acts.

After brutally killing his female victims, Popkov left the naked bodies of his victims in a deserted forest.

Popkov was officially arrested in June 2012 after police charged him with DNA traces found at the crime scenes.

Popkov confessed that he had lost the desire to kill after contracting syphilis from one of his victims, which left him impotent. Investigators confirmed that Popkov had stopped killing since 2000 due to illness./.
