Former Catalan Parliament President Appears in Supreme Court

According to AFP, the former President of the dissolved Parliament of Catalonia, Ms. Carme Forcadell, appeared before the Spanish Supreme Court on November 9 regarding her role in the controversial independence effort in Catalonia.

A judge could order the arrest of Ms Forcadell and five former MPs on charges of sedition, rebellion and misuse of public funds after Catalan lawmakers voted in favour of secession from Spain last month.

The former officials are suspected of pursuing a "calculated strategy to declare independence" before the Catalan parliament's formal declaration on October 27, deepening Spain's most serious political crisis in decades.

The Spanish Supreme Court may decide to detain Ms. Forcadell and the above-mentioned former lawmakers before trial./.
