Former Iranian Parliament Speaker withdraws from election race
Iranian media reported on June 10 that former conservative speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, has unexpectedly withdrawn from the list of candidates in the Iranian presidential election, scheduled to take place on June 14.
The semi-official Mehr news agency quoted Mr. Haddad-Adel as saying he wanted the Iranian people to respect the election criteria set by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Meanwhile, local news site Aftab also reported that the reformist candidate Mohammad-Reza Aref also withdrew from the presidential race to support candidate Hassan Rouhani. However, Mr. Aref immediately denied this information.
Last month, Iran's Guardian Council approved a list of eight candidates to run for president on June 14, most of whom are conservative figures close to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei./.
