Former Pentagon chief adviser Colonel Douglas McGregor said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a very dangerous mistake for himself and his country.

According to Mr. McGregor, the Ukrainian leader is once again trying to increase the risks in the conflict with Russia, without realizing that this will not save Mr. Zelensky from defeat.

“Any gambler in Las Vegas will tell you that when you are losing, the biggest mistake is to keep increasing the stakes. Why increase the stakes when you are clearly unlucky? Ukraine is losing, has been losing for a long time. And it is over in front of us. And what is the United States doing? Washington is promising more sophisticated weapons with longer ranges. This is pure madness, because in the end it will all lead to the destruction of the Kiev regime and the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” Colonel McGregor commented.

Previously, Colonel McGregor also said that some NATO countries intended to send troops to Ukraine to participate in the war.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States has been seriously considering sending cluster bombs to Kiev for at least a week, U.S. officials said on July 6, as part of a new military aid package for Ukraine.

US-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called for an end to the use of cluster bombs in the conflict in Ukraine and asked Washington to reject Kiev's call to supply such weapons.

“The danger from cluster munitions is real. Cluster munitions are weapons launched by artillery, rockets, missiles, and aircraft in mid-air and disperse dozens or hundreds of small bomblets over an area the size of one or two football fields. Their use amounts to a war crime,” Human Rights Watch said.

HRW estimates that the cluster munitions the US is considering sending to Ukraine are more than 20 years old, “dispersed over a large area and at risk of affecting civilians for years.”
