Former police officer who caused male student's death prosecuted
Nguyen Xuan Tinh, 29 years old, was accused of "unintentionally causing a gun to go off" causing the death of a 21-year-old male student.
On November 8, the leader of Hanoi Police announced that he had decided to prosecute and detain Tinh, a police officer of Phuc Tho district, to investigate the crime.Involuntary manslaughterAccording to Article 128 of the 2015 Penal Code. Previously, the Hanoi Police stripped him of his title of People's Police to serve the investigation.
Article 128 stipulates that anyone who unintentionally causes the death of another person shall be subject to non-custodial reform for up to three years or imprisonment from one to five years; committing the crime of causing the death of two or more people shall be subject to imprisonment from three to ten years.

Defendant Tinh confessed to buying a homemade air gun on social media, the kind used to shoot birds. On the evening of October 30, Tinh took the gun, which he thought had no bullets left, to a coffee shop in lane 26 Vo Van Dung, Dong Da district to show off to a group of friends. While examining the gun, it "accidentally went off".
The bullet pierced the heart of 21-year-old male student Nguyen Duc Anh, who was sitting at the door of the house opposite, about 40 meters away.
Tinh and his friends then took Duc Anh to the emergency room, but the victim had already died. Duc Anh, from Hai Phong, is currently a final year student at the University of Transport.
