Asked about the increased level of confrontation between the United States and China compared to the previous Cold War period, the former US Secretary of State said that tensions between the two countries had increased sharply in the final months of President Donald Trump's term.

"What happened cannot be easily erased from the memory of those who participated," said Henry Kissinger.

However, the Joe Biden administration understands that confrontation cannot benefit Washington, Beijing and the rest of the world, Mr. Kissinger said.

Veteran diplomat Henry Kissinger warned: "This will lead to a conflict with no winners, like World War I, which will end with attrition on both sides."

The diplomat noted that American society sees China as a permanent enemy and a source of negative phenomena.

“It will be very difficult for the new administration to find a way out of the confrontation and develop a more sustainable strategy,” Mr. Kissinger said.
