(Baonghean.vn) - After a period of treatment, the health of the premature baby who initially weighed only 1.3 kg in Nghe An has stabilized, now weighing 3.5 kg and has been discharged from the hospital to go home.

February 14, informationNghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospitalsaid that after nearly half a year of care and treatment, the health of baby NTQH (residing in Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An) has stabilized, weight reached 3.5 kg and was discharged from the hospital to go home.

Since her 29th week of pregnancy, Ms. H. (residing in Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An) suffered from severe abdominal pain accompanied by vaginal bleeding and ruptured water, so she went to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Here, after being examined and having an ultrasound, the doctors immediately ordered an emergency cesarean section, because if left any longer, it would be dangerous for both mother and fetus.

Due to being born prematurely (the baby weighed only 1.3 kg), after birth, baby NTQH was immediately taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for care. Here, the doctors diagnosed the patient with sepsis, purulent meningitis, and severe respiratory failure. The baby could not breathe on his own, had to be put on a ventilator, intubated, and given surfactant to treat the membranes.

After 2 days of treatment with a weak newborn body and many diseases, the baby's condition became even more critical when he developed a distended abdomen, green gastric juice, bloody stools, and necrotizing enterocolitis. After examination, the doctors discovered that the patient had a perforated intestine and had to undergo surgery to remove intestinal adhesions and create an artificial anus.

Dr. Truong Le Thi, Head of the Department of Neonatal Emergency Resuscitation (Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital) said: "The treatment and care process for NTQH patients is very difficult. Premature babies have weak bodies, suffer from many diseases, and have to be treated with many antibiotics. In particular, the child has purulent meningitis, has to have cerebrospinal fluid punctured many times, the intestines are necrotic, and an artificial anus has to be made, making the child's absorption of nutrients very poor. Caring for and cleaning the child is extremely difficult. The child's body is severely malnourished, and his health condition is extremely critical."

The nearly 6-month long period was a long battle in which doctors and nurses fought to save the baby's life from the hands of death. Currently, NTQH's health has stabilized, he is breathing normally, weighs 3.5 kg and has been discharged home.
