Former US Governor visits North Korea in personal capacity

Mr. Bill Richardson will travel to North Korea with Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

On January 4, former Governor of the US state of New Mexico Bill Richardson said he plans to visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as a private humanitarian.

Bill Richardson will travel to North Korea with Google boss Eric Schmidt. The visit, scheduled for early next month, is related to the case of American citizen Kenneth Bae who was detained by North Korea when he entered the country. Bill Richardson believes his negotiation experience will help resolve the case.

Speaking on CBS, the former Governor of New Mexico confirmed that he did not represent the US Government in this visit to the DPRK. According to the previous plan, Mr. Richardson and Google head Eric Schmidt planned to visit the DPRK last December, however, the trip was postponed because of the presidential election in South Korea.

Former Governor Richardson also said that Mr. Eric Schmidt's visit to the DPRK this time was not in his capacity as a representative of Google or for the business purposes of this Group./.
