Former US President Jimmy Carter has liver surgery

Former US President Jimmy Carter underwent surgery on August 3 to remove a small tumor in his liver.
The Atlanta-based Carter Center said the surgery was performed successfully at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
“The surgery went without any complications and we expect (him) to recover well,” the hospital said in a statement.
Former President Carter was in office from 1977-1981. He was an extremely active former president in lobbying for health campaigns in developing countries through the charitable foundation he founded.
In May 2015, Mr. Carter cut short a trip to Guyana due to poor health. The next day, he attended an event in Atlanta for the Carter Center, a nongovernmental organization he founded in 1982.
