Former Ukrainian President Poroshenko warns of energy disaster in winter
Former Ukrainian President Poroshenko warns people about the energy disaster threatening Ukraine.

According to RIA Novosti, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on June 13 that the situation in Ukraine's energy sector is almost catastrophic.
“There is an absolute consensus forecast that we will be in for an energy disaster this winter unless urgent action is taken,” the politician said.
According to Mr. Poroshenko, when the cold weather comes, Ukrainians will have enough heat for only 4 hours a day, and the pipes will start to freeze. In addition, this will provoke a mass exodus from the country.
Mr. Poroshenko added that many scenarios were being put forward, but he himself was looking at the situation in a “more optimistic” way.
Earlier, former Minister of Fuel and Energy Ivan Plachkov said that the next heating season in Ukraine could turn out to be “disastrous”.
In recent months, Russia has stepped up attacks on Ukraine's energy grid, targeting thermal power plants, hydroelectric plants and other infrastructure, stepping up airstrikes further after the United States approved a $61 billion military aid package for Kiev.
DTEK - Ukraine's largest private energy company, which meets about 20% of Ukraine's energy needs, said in late March 2024 that the company had recorded more than 9,700 attacks on its infrastructure since Russia launched its military offensive in Ukraine in February 2022. Nearly 160 of the attacks were aimed at the company's thermal power plants./.
