Da Nang: Patient suspected of being infected with Ebola virus tests positive for malaria

Until official test results from the Central Institute of Epidemiology are available, the patient will remain isolated and treated.

Ms. Ngo Thi Kim Yen, Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Da Nang City, has just announced that the patient suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus in Da Nang tested positive for malaria through initial tests.

However, the health sector has not ruled out the possibility that this patient has Ebola. Therefore, until the official test results from the National Institute of Epidemiology are available, the patient will still be isolated and treated according to the Ministry of Health's guidelines.

As reported, on the morning of November 1, at 10:30 a.m., Hoan My Hospital, Da Nang received patient Chu Van Chung, born in 1988, from Thanh Hoa province, hospitalized with symptoms of high fever.

Because the patient had lived in Guinea for 2 years, transiting through Morocco and Qatar. 5 days ago, the patient entered Vietnam through Tan Son Nhat Airport, Ho Chi Minh City. After returning to Da Nang from Ho Chi Minh City for 2 days, he had a fever, so Hoan My Hospital transferred patient Chung to the Tropical Medicine Department of Da Nang Hospital for isolation and treatment according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health.

On the afternoon of November 1, the Department of Health held an urgent meeting to deploy measures to prevent the Ebola epidemic. At the same time, it made a list of passengers on the same flight and those who had contact with patient Chung to monitor their health and recommended that if they had symptoms of fever, they should immediately go to a medical facility to report./.
