Da Nang spends 2 million USD to cover the whole city with WiFi
Nearly 400 WiFi transmitters costing about 2 million USD will be installed throughout Da Nang City, ensuring simultaneous service for 10,000 accesses.
On the morning of May 23, Mr. Pham Kim Son, Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang City, said that the WiFi system will be operational next September, with nearly 400 transmitters (each transmitter within a range of about 300 m), ensuring simultaneous access for 10,000 users.
The entire city of Da Nang will be covered by wireless Internet next September.
The WiFi installation was carried out in two phases, with a total investment of nearly 2 million USD (over 40 billion VND). WiFi transmitters were installed on public lighting poles, tourist attractions, universities, departments, and branches... with 2.4 and 5.8 GHz frequency bands, connecting via the urban network in operation.
Mr. Son said that the project was conceived in 2003 when Da Nang set out the goal of developing the information technology sector, but implementation was slow due to investment capital problems. When implemented, the project applied 2012 technology. "If we want to do information technology, develop the socio-economy, and provide public services online, installing wireless Internet is extremely necessary, creating a foundation for the process of building e-government," Mr. Son said.
In Vietnam, Da Nang is the fourth city to have free WiFi coverage, after Hoi An, Ha Long and the ancient capital of Hue, contributing to improving people's knowledge and online education and training activities; promoting tourism; monitoring and warning about environmental pollution; managing urban traffic and natural disasters...
