Body of missing fisherman found while squid fishing
(Baonghean.vn) - Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyet, Deputy Chief of Nghi Thiet Commune Police, Nghi Loc District (Nghe An), said that at 11:00 a.m. today, May 8, relatives and local authorities found the body of Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (born in 1960, residing in Bac Thinh Hamlet, Nghi Thiet Commune). Mr. Thanh's body was found in the sea area of Lach Van Port, more than 2 nautical miles from shore.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyet, earlier on the afternoon of May 7, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, his son-in-law Nguyen Van Tam (born in 1985) and some others rowed a boat out to sea to fish for squid at night. At 3:00 a.m. on May 8, when the boat was more than 2 nautical miles from shore, everyone heard a cry for help coming from the boat that Mr. Thanh was steering alone. When everyone quickly rowed the boat to the rescue, they only saw the boat was deserted, and Mr. Thanh had fallen into the sea and gone missing.
Immediately after that, the family hired workers and fishing boats to search. At 11:00 a.m. on May 8, Mr. Thanh's body was found near the scene of the accident.
According to those who were in the same squid fishing group as the victim, the reason Mr. Thanh fell into the sea was because a strange boat hit him, causing him to fall into the sea. The victim's boat also had a broken light pole.
"The authorities have carried out procedures to examine the body but the family did not request an autopsy," said Mr. Tuyet - Deputy Police Chief of Nghi Thiet Commune. This afternoon, the family held a funeral for the victim according to local customs.
