(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon and evening of April 21, delegates attending the 10th Conference of Party Newspapers of provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands regions (round IV) solemnly held a flower and incense offering ceremony at Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, released flower lanterns on Thach Han River to pay tribute and commemorate heroic martyrs.

With respect and gratitude, delegates attending the 10th Conference of Party Newspapers of provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands regions (round IV) organized a flower and incense offering ceremony to commemorate the heroic martyrs in the 81-day and night battle to protect the Ancient Citadel and Quang Tri town in the summer of 1972.

Quang Tri Ancient Citadel - a special national monument of Vietnam is located in the center of Quang Tri town, Quang Tri province. During the General Offensive and Uprising in 1972, the Ancient Citadel became known to the world through the fierce 81-day and night battle to defend the citadel.

Attending the event were Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Dinh Nhu Hoan; Deputy Head of the Press and Publishing Department, Central Propaganda Department Phan Thi Quynh Mai, along with representatives of the Editorial Board and reporters of 42 local Party newspapers. In the summer of 1972, at the Citadel, about 328,000 tons of bombs and ammunition from the American invaders were dropped on this land. Day and night, the sky and land of Quang Tri were red with blood and fire.

To protect the Citadel, tens of thousands of heroic martyrs fell. Their blood and bones were incarnated in every inch of Quang Tri land.

On the night of April 21, delegates attending the 10th Conference of Party Newspapers of provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands regions (round IV) organized a flower lantern night to commemorate and pay tribute to heroic martyrs at the Ceremony Hall - Flower releasing dock on the southern bank of Thach Han River.

The activities of offering incense, releasing flower lanterns, and lighting candles to pay tribute to heroic martyrs by leaders, cadres, and reporters of Party Newspapers in provinces and cities in the Central Highlands region demonstrate the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "Repaying gratitude" of today's generation towards the sacrifices and great contributions of heroic martyrs.

From April 21 to 23, the 10th Conference of Party Newspapers of provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands regions (round IV) was held in Quang Tri province.
