"The Great War" Dortmund - Bayern draw

May 5, 2013 16:59

The "Champions League final rehearsal" between Dortmund and Bayern in the 32nd round of the Bundesliga ended in a 1-1 draw. Grosskreutz opened the scoring for Dortmund and Mario Gomez equalized.

This result promises a dramatic and exciting ending to the final at Wembley Stadium on May 25.

Although it was just a formality, both sides started the match with great urgency and Dortmund were the first to have joy. In the 12th minute, Schieber made a decisive dribble to create conditions for Grosskreutz to shoot past Manuel Neuer.

However, the joy had not yet ended when Dortmund suffered a loss when Gundogan was injured and had to leave the field from the 15th minute. This is a playmaker whose importance was highly appreciated by experts through the two semi-final matches with Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, after unsuccessful efforts, Bayern finally got an equalizer. In the 24th minute, Rafinha crossed the ball accurately for Mario Gomez to head past goalkeeper Weidenfeller, leveling the score 1-1.

After this goal, the match slowed down when both sides were not too interested in organizing attacks even though the intensity in each phase of the ball was very high.

After the break, the tempo of the match increased with some quite tense situations. In the 51st minute, Neven Subotic seemed to have fouled Claudio Pizarro in the Dortmund penalty area but the referee did not award the away team a penalty.

8 minutes later, Boateng handled the ball in the penalty area and Dortmund was awarded a penalty. However, on the 11m mark, number 1 striker Robert Lewandowski missed the chance to bring victory to Dortmund when his free kick failed to beat goalkeeper Neuer.

The drama did not stop there because in the 67th minute, Rafinha received a red card and Bayern played with only 10 men for nearly half an hour. Both sides immediately made personnel adjustments but neither team could score more goals, so they had to accept a share of points and a dream final at Wembley.

In this round, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke 04 both won to advance to the goal of winning tickets to participate in the Champions League next season. Leverkusen defeated Nurmberg 2-0 while Schalke beat Monchengladbach 1-0./.
