Some Western countries at the UN Security Council do not want the draft statement of the President of the Security Council to include a call to hold accountable the perpetrators of the terrorist attack at Nord Stream, said Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.

Earlier, the UN Security Council did not accept the draft statement of the Council President on this topic submitted by Russia.

“At the meeting on September 26, we announced that Russia would propose a statement by the President of the Security Council that would send a strong signal that the attack on a large-scale underwater gas pipeline is unacceptable, as well as the need to hold accountable the organizers and perpetrators of this incident,” Nebenzya said.

“One way or another, not all members of the UN Security Council share that view,” the Russian representative pointed out.

According to him, the document did not receive unanimous support from the Council.

“We are confused by the arguments of our Western colleagues. The Russian Federation is deeply concerned by the fact that a year after the attack on Nord Stream we still do not have any specific information about the investigations conducted by Denmark, Germany and Sweden, let alone their results,” the Russian representative noted.

The draft statement, he said, stressed the importance of urgently completing the investigations by Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

“On the other hand, representatives of Western countries see this as some kind of pressure on the authorities of the three countries. Moreover, we are faced with persistent attempts to remove from the draft the paragraph calling on Denmark, Germany and Sweden to cooperate with the Russian Federation. And what is even more remarkable is that some of our Western colleagues propose to remove the words about the need to hold accountable for the terrorist attack on Nord Stream and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he stressed.
