From 90 people on the preliminary list, the 3rd consultative conference in Ho Chi Minh City agreed to reduce the number to 36 people on the official list to elect deputies to the 14th National Assembly.

On the afternoon of April 16, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (VFFHCMC) held the third consultative conference to select and provide a list of qualified candidates for the 14th National Assembly (term 2016-2021).

Reporting at the conference, Mr. Vu Thanh Luu - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City said that from the preliminary list after the second consultation conference of 90 people (including 42 people introduced by agencies and 48 people self-nominated), by April 16, there were only 74 people left. The reason was that 16 people voluntarily withdrew from the list of candidates after the second consultation conference.

Delegates voted to approve the official list of candidates to elect deputies to the 14th National Assembly in Ho Chi Minh City.

Meanwhile, the report of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City also showed that only 28/40 self-nominated candidates declared their workplaces and of these, 17 of the self-nominated candidates' agencies and units organized voters' conferences, 11 refused to organize them because they did not actually work at the unit. As a result, the 17 people who organized to collect opinions at their workplaces all achieved a trust score of over 50%.

The report also shows that there are 8 people provided by the authorities and voters who are not qualified to run for National Assembly deputies, including Mr. Dang Thanh Tam - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saigon Investment Group.

Based on the results of voters' trust at their place of residence and workplace, and the opinions of the relevant agencies, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has reviewed and compared them with the standards of National Assembly deputies stipulated in the Law on Organization of the National Assembly to propose the establishment of an official list of candidates for the 14th National Assembly.

Accordingly, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has requested delegates not to include 30 people with a voter trust rate of less than 50% and 8 people who have been criticized by voters in the list of candidates for the 14th National Assembly. Therefore, the number of candidates is only 36.

The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City then continued to propose that the conference unify the list of these 36 people who are qualified to run for the National Assembly. In the voting session, the delegates attending the 3rd consultative conference agreed with the above proposals.

Finally, in the list of 36 selected candidates, there are 2 self-nominated candidates: Mr. Lam Thieu Quan (currently a delegate of the 18th term of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Director of Tien Phong Company) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Chuong (Bachelor of Pedagogy in Literature, teacher, Party cell secretary of Tan Tuc High School, Binh Chanh District).

Mr. Dang Thanh Tam and Mr. Hoang Huu Phuoc (currently delegates of the 13th National Assembly) have been removed from the official election list.

Up to now, 36 candidates from Ho Chi Minh City and 14 Central candidates will be listed for voters to choose and elect 30 National Assembly delegates from Ho Chi Minh City in the 14th term.

According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the above list has ensured the structure and composition according to the distribution of the National Assembly Standing Committee, specifically: 5 non-Party members (accounting for 13.9%); 15 women (accounting for 41.7%), 3 people from ethnic groups (accounting for 8.3%), 2 people from religious organizations (accounting for 5.6%) and 6 people under 40 years old (accounting for 16.7%).
