Some rich Vietnamese people have spent up to 50 million VND to buy two ham legs imported from Spain to celebrate Tet.

There are still nearly 2 months left until Lunar New Year, but to have fresh and delicious Spanish Iberico black pork to eat during Tet, rich Vietnamese people have ordered it a month in advance, even though the price is up to a million VND/kg.

Sitting and checking a batch of fresh Iberico black pork before letting the staff display it on the shelves, Ms. Dang Ngoc Ha Phuong - manager of a high-end food store in Quang Trung (Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi), said that black pork is classified as a high-end product and has appeared on the Vietnamese market for several years now.

This type of meat is aimed at rich Vietnamese people, luxury restaurants or 5-star hotels. However, close to New Year and Lunar New Year, black pork is very popular and is ordered by many people.

Ms. Phuong said that black pork loin is the most expensive, up to 1 million VND/kg; black pork neck and ribs alone cost only 400,000 - 500,000 VND/kg.

Rich Vietnamese people are fond of buying Spanish black pork to eat during Tet, even though it is quite expensive.

According to Ms. Phuong, usually customers who buy fresh Iberico pork do not have to order in advance because the store always has it available, but near Tet, the number of customers ordering increases significantly.

This is the breed that is considered the most delicious in the world because they are raised naturally on pasture with the main food being acorns, olives and cardamom, so many families want to invite guests during the upcoming Tet holiday.

Not only competing to buy black pork, rich Vietnamese also spend a lot of money to buy salted Iberico pork legs.

“Normally, customers often buy the ham leg that is sliced thinly by Spanish artisans, but this time customers are buying more whole hams,” she said. Each ham leg weighs from 8-10kg, the cheapest one costs 8.5 million VND, the premium one is nearly 25 million VND.

Despite the high prices, according to Ms. Phuong, the number of customers ordering during this time increased 5-6 times compared to normal days. Last weekend, in just one day, she sold 5 ham legs, not counting the amount of pre-sliced ham.

A VIP customer from Hai Phong even drove 100km to Hanoi, came to her store and bought 2 ham hocks for nearly 50 million VND to have a year-end party and celebrate Tet.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dao Tan Minh, owner of an imported food store in Minh Khai (Hai Ba Trung) also said that the list of customers ordering fresh black pork and Spanish salted black pork for Tet is increasing day by day.

"Up to now, there have been over 100 orders for meat for Tet, most of which are individual family customers, only a few are businesses ordering for year-end parties," Mr. Minh shared.

Ms. Thanh Van in Tran Phu (Ha Dong, Hanoi) shared that her family really likes to eat Spanish black pork, especially salted pork. Because this type of meat is not only clean pork, it also has a very special flavor, the meat has many fibers, is fatty and smooth combined with a slightly salty taste, very suitable as a side dish when drinking wine.

“Today I just ordered 1kg of tenderloin, 2kg of Spanish black pork ribs and 1.5kg of salted pork for the upcoming Lunar New Year,” she said, adding that the fresh meat will be used to prepare dishes for the New Year’s Eve dinner and the first day of the New Year’s Eve meal, while the salted pork will be kept in the refrigerator to serve guests. Because the salted pork is kept in the refrigerator, it is very convenient to take it out and eat when guests come to the house, while during Tet, guests often drink wine, so eating salted pork is both simple and luxurious.

“Two years ago, if you wanted to eat this type of meat, you had to order it a week in advance. Now it’s more convenient because many stores sell it. However, during Tet last year, I could only buy salted pork, fresh meat was sold out. This year, I learned from experience and ordered earlier,” Ms. Van shared./.
