In the first 8 months of 2025, Vietnam imported 34,524 tons of pepper worth 215.3 million USD, according to data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA). Of which, black pepper accounted for the majority with 29,297 tons, the remaining 5,227 tons were white pepper. Compared to the same period in 2024, the import volume increased by 61.7% but the value increased by 143.5%.
The fact that the turnover doubled the growth rate of output shows that the average import price of pepper is higher, reflecting the strong fluctuations of the world market. This also means that Vietnamese enterprises have to spend more money to import raw materials for processing and export.
Brazil is currently the largest supplier, reaching 17,506 tons, up 117.2% and accounting for more than 50% of total imports. Cambodia is second with 8,539 tons, up nearly 29%, followed by Indonesia with 6,326 tons, up nearly 40%. The market shares of Cambodia and Indonesia are gradually shrinking due to strong competition from Brazil's stable, low-cost supply.
In the group of importing enterprises, Olam continued to lead with 8,268 tons, up more than 10% over the same period. Pearl reached 2,823 tons, up slightly by 2.4%. Notably, Nedspice imported 2,287 tons, a sudden increase of 363%, showing a very aggressive strategy to expand market share.
These figures reflect a clear differentiation in the pepper import market: some large enterprises maintain stable growth, while others take advantage of opportunities from fluctuations in world pepper prices to make strong breakthroughs.
