(Baonghean.vn) - Lao and Thai students studying at Vinh University enjoyed the warm and joyful atmosphere of the traditional New Year's Day at the Bunpimay - Songkran traditional New Year celebration held on the afternoon of April 15.
Representatives of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association, along with a large number of teachers, students of the school and overseas Vietnamese attended the ceremony.

On the occasion of the traditional Bunpimay New Year of the Lao ethnic people and Songkran, the traditional cultural festival of Thailand, representatives of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association and representatives of Vinh University sent best wishes to the Lao-Thai people in general and international students of the two countries studying in the province in particular.
Attending the ceremony, Lao students studying abroad had a truly warm and meaningful New Year, with traditional Bunpimay rituals such as: blessing ceremony, water-splashing, wrist-tying, Lam Vong dance and special performances by Lao, Thai and Vietnamese students. This is an opportunity for students from different countries to learn and share each other's cultural activities and customs. From there, it will further strengthen the solidarity and friendship between people of different countries as well as the affection between civil servants and students of the school towards overseas students.

There are currently nearly 450 Lao and Thai students studying at the school. This is the 11th year that Vinh University has organized a traditional New Year celebration for Lao and Thai students. At the ceremony, the Union of Friendship Organizations awarded certificates of merit to 5 students with good academic and training achievements; the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association awarded scholarships to 6 Lao students studying at Vinh University, Vinh Medical University and Vinh University of Technical Education; and the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association awarded certificates of merit to 2 students with high academic and training achievements.
