The President requested that the Association should properly implement its principles and unite entrepreneurs to develop production and business effectively.

On the morning of August 7, in Hanoi, the first Congress of the Vietnam Veteran Entrepreneurs Association, term 2013-2018, took place. Attending the Congress were former General Secretary Le Kha Phieu, President Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, representatives of central agencies, the Vietnam Veterans Association and provinces and cities, along with nearly 300 delegates representing over 5,000 veteran entrepreneurs and former soldiers nationwide.

Speaking at the opening of the Congress, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association Le Thanh Tam said: With the desire to have an organization connecting Vietnamese veteran entrepreneurs and businesses across the country to join together in an economic organization to promote the potential of veterans, on July 31, 2012, the Vietnam Veterans Association directed the establishment of the Association's Steering Committee and on April 22, 2013, the Ministry of Home Affairs officially approved the establishment of the Vietnam Veterans Entrepreneurs Association. This is an important basis for connecting entrepreneurs to contribute to the development of businesses and the country.

As a voluntary social-professional organization of War Veterans and Military Veterans, the Association upholds the principles of developing production and business in general; developing, protecting and supporting members to operate effectively, contributing to the economic and social development of the country. Being a solid support in terms of organization and law in production, business and service activities of members; caring for and helping each other in life, strengthening friendship in combat, comradeship and colleagueship among Vietnam War Veterans businessmen.

The purpose of the Association is to gather and unite Vietnamese Veteran Businessmen and Veterans who are producing and doing business in Vietnam to help each other promote production and business, get rich legally, create conditions to help veterans, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers in difficult circumstances; expand exchanges between members and domestic and foreign businessmen under the motto "Solidarity, affection, cooperation for mutual development".

Speaking at the Congress, President Truong Tan Sang expressed his pleasure to attend the Congress and emphasized: In recent years, implementing the Party's renewal policy, the movement of veterans helping each other develop the economy, eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, improve living standards, and legally enrich themselves, contributing to the successful implementation of the task of developing the local and national economy has developed strongly and widely. From within the movement, many veterans have overcome many difficulties, been dynamic, creative, found suitable and effective economic models, and become successful businessmen. With the development and maturity of the increasingly large number of veteran entrepreneurs, the establishment of the Vietnam Veteran Entrepreneurs Association is inevitable. This is a milestone marking the maturity of the veteran movement on the economic front, the joy of veteran entrepreneurs in particular, and the Vietnam Veterans Association in general.

To promote the role of the Association in life, the President suggested that the Association needs to properly implement its principles and goals of gathering and uniting veteran entrepreneurs, protecting and supporting members to develop production and business effectively.

“The Association needs to do a good job of disseminating and propagating the Party's guidelines, laws and policies of the State so that in production and business, Veteran enterprises must be exemplary enterprises and businessmen in complying with the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State, building a civilized lifestyle and cultural environment in enterprises; improving the material and spiritual life of workers; truly being "Uncle Ho's soldiers" on the economic front" - the President emphasized.

The President also suggested that the Veteran Entrepreneurs Association should focus on building an increasingly strong organization. Members should focus their intelligence and democratically discuss the Association's charter so that the Association can be organized and operate according to the principles of voluntariness, self-management, linking obligations and rights, harmoniously combining collective interests with the practical interests of each member, protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of members; regularly maintain close relations with Veterans Associations at all levels; and properly resolve relations with agencies related to the scope and field of operation of the Association.

The President believes that in the long and extremely fierce and arduous resistance wars, veteran comrades fought bravely, achieved glorious feats, and contributed to protecting the independence, freedom, and unity of the Fatherland. Today, in the cause of innovation, construction, and protection of the Fatherland, veteran businessmen will continue to promote the tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", becoming model businessmen on the economic front./.
