Vietnam's "great rival" suffered losses before AFF Cup 2018

(Baonghean.vn) - The AFF Cup 2018 will open in less than a week, but the Indonesian national team is still facing many difficulties both on the coaching bench and in the player force.

Coach Luis Milla refused to return to Indonesia due to not finding common ground on salary issues, forcing PSSI to replace him with assistant coach Bima Sakti, leading the team at the AFF Cup 2018.

Meanwhile, although Indonesia has finalized the list of 23 players for the AFF Cup quite early on October 16, it is likely that this list will have to change. Because the Indonesian National Championship will not end until December 9, some clubs have refused to release their players. Among them is 37-year-old naturalized star Alberto Gonçalve, who is being asked to be withdrawn from the list by Sriwijaya Club.

Most recently, young striker Saddil Ramdani was also arrested by the police on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend, which led to his removal from the national team. Notably, star Irfan Bachdim was also absent from Indonesia's AFF Cup squad.

According to statistics, since participating in the AFF Cup, Vietnam has faced Indonesia 9 times. Of which, our first and only victory to date was in the 3rd place match of the AFF Cup 1996, which was nearly 22 years ago. Since then, the two teams have met 7 times, Vietnam has drawn 4, lost 3 and has not won once.

The AFF Cup will kick off on November 8 with matches in Group A. Meanwhile, the Indonesian team will begin the tournament on November 9 with an away match against Singapore.

Yesterday, goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung suffered a minor injury to his left foot and could not participate in the training session of the Vietnam National Team. Phan Van Duc, Tran Dinh Trong, and Doan Van Hau finished the afternoon training session with limping steps and had to apply ice packs. However, according to forecasts, they will only need a few days to recover.

The team will have one more training session today (November 3) in Hanoi before going to Laos on November 4.
