Grand ceremony to pray for national peace and prosperity at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda

On the morning of October 7, the ceremony to receive the Certificate of recognition of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda's Woodblocks as a World Memory Heritage in the Asia-Pacific region to Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, and at the same time, a grand ceremony to pray for national peace and prosperity was solemnly held at the pagoda.

Previously, on the evening of July 6, UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam, Ms. Katherine Muller Marin, presented the Certificate of recognition of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda Woodblocks as a World Memory Heritage in the Asia-Pacific region.

The woodblocks of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Tri Yen Commune, Yen Dung District, Bac Giang Province were named by the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Committee and officially listed as a Documentary Heritage in the Memory of the World Program on May 16, 2012, in Bangkok (Thailand).

The relics in Vinh Nghiem pagoda are very rich and diverse, each group of artifacts is worthy of being arranged into a fairly complete collection, including: Collection of worship statues, more than one hundred statues are arranged in the Tam Bao, To De Nhat, To De Nhi, and Khach Duong. The system of steles (8 panels) was basically composed and engraved in the 17th and 18th centuries and the latest plate was engraved in 1932, recording the entire history of the development of Vinh Nghiem Buddhist center, the system of horizontal lacquered boards - parallel sentences, worship objects, and Buddhist scriptures. In which, the woodblock heritage is not only artistic sculptures but also has great value in Buddhist teachings, philosophy of life, history of science, literature and education...

After the procession to receive the Certificate of recognition of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda's Woodblocks as a World Memory Heritage in the Asia-Pacific region, the delegates, monks, nuns, Buddhists of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda and people respectfully performed the incense offering ceremony and held a ceremony to pray for national peace and prosperity.

Bac Giang hopes that in the near future, the province's cultural heritages will promote their value in attracting tourists, contributing to the province's socio-economic development.

Within the framework of the Ceremony to receive the Certificate of Cultural Heritage Recognition and the 5th Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ethnic Groups of Bac Giang Province in 2012, this afternoon, in Bac Giang City, a workshop will be held with the three provinces of Hanoi, Lang Son and Bac Giang to discuss the coordination to open a tourist route from Hanoi to Bac Giang and Lang Son.
