Ambassador Antonov sets conditions for Russia to use nuclear weapons

This statement was made by Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov in a speech at the conference of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington DC.
Mr. Antonov said that the news about Russia being accused of being the first country to launch a nuclear attack is fabricated.
Ambassador Antonov stated: "Our military doctrine clearly states when and under what circumstances we can use nuclear weapons - if an attack is launched against the Russian Federation, when there is a threat to the existence of the country. We consider the United States a partner, it is up to you to decide who we are for you."
In late January, Democrats introduced a bill that would prohibit the United States from being the first to use nuclear weapons in military conflicts.
Such a proposal was made by Senator Elizabeth Warren and head of the US House Armed Services Committee Adam Smith./.
