Russia warns US cannot stand aside from the escalating situation in Ukraine
The Russian ambassador to Washington said the United States would not be able to sit idly by if the situation in Ukraine escalated into a global conflict.
According to RIA Novosti on September 3, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov expressed confidence that the US will not be able to sit idly by if the current situation in Ukraine escalates into a global conflict.
“Washington’s idea of pitting Europe against Russia, using the Ukraine crisis for this purpose, will not work if the current situation escalates into a global conflict,” he told reporters.
The Russian diplomat noted that no supply of modern equipment, be it fighter jets or long-range missiles, let alone sending mercenaries, will change the situation on the battlefield.
Ambassador Anatoly Antonov also pointed out that there is currently a discussion about expanding the scope of Ukraine's attacks on Russian territory. He noted that in the US media, Kiev's handover to Washington of a list of targets that could be attacked by US long-range missiles is being discussed.
“At the same time, no one is embarrassed by the data coming from the Kursk and Belgorod regions, about the increasing damage to the Russian population, houses, hospitals, bridges destroyed by direct fire, including with the help of American weapons,” Ambassador Antonov told reporters.
Mr. Antonov also pointed out that American officials ignored the obvious facts about the brutality of Ukrainian forces - killing people, taunting prisoners and local residents, and considered it normal.
Ambassador Antonov believes that the US “Ukrainian project” has brought “destruction and massive casualties to the Slavs”, but Russia will meet this challenge. He stressed that the goals and objectives of the special military operation will be fully achieved.
Commenting on the recent visit of Ukrainian officials to the US, the Russian Ambassador did not rule out the possibility that they could receive new promises from the US administration about supporting military actions against Russia.
“I am sure that in the future all this will be formalized in the form of another package of arms supplies to Ukraine,” Ambassador Antonov said, adding that Washington’s goal of harming Russia would continue to be achieved with “arms assistance placed in the hands of the Ukrainians.”
