Sky News quoted Seoul police as saying that the 38-year-old man named Liu threw four petrol bombs at the Japanese Embassy this morning, leaving many scorch marks on the wall outside the embassy.
“He was arrested immediately. Investigations are underway to find out why he did this,” a police officer said, adding that no one was injured in the attack.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Liu initially confessed that he did so to seek justice for his grandmother - one of many women forced into sexual slavery for Japanese soldiers before and during World War II.
Police said Liu came to South Korea from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou last month on a tourist visa.
