Austrian Colonel: Russia's Breakthrough in Ukraine Risks a Domino Effect
(Baonghean.vn) - Austrian Army Colonel Markus Reisner said that Ukraine is trying to deploy more forces to prevent Russia's breakthrough, but this puts Kiev in a dilemma: If Kiev does not have enough resources, it will cause a "dam break" phenomenon, which can cause a domino effect.

According to RT on April 26, Austrian Army Colonel Markus Reisner, a military expert, in an interview with N-TV, assessed that in the past 2 weeks, the Russian army has broken through Ukraine's second line of defense in many places. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army on the front is increasingly inferior, especially in the west of Avdeevka.
"In fact, west of Avdeevka and north of Berdychi, over the past 14 days, Russian troops have advanced 10 kilometers and in some places almost breached the second line of defense of Ukraine," Colonel Reisner said.
According to Colonel Reisner, the Russians have broken through along the western line of attack. And what is particularly important here is the fact that this line of attack and the much-talked-about strategic settlement - Ocheretino - are located on a hill. So the Russian troops are advancing, and from there they will be able to control the surrounding territories, and further, to the west, north and partly to the south. Therefore, having taken control of the high ground, the Russian troops will fight the Ukrainian troops, who are located below.
Military experts say Ukraine has tried to mobilize brigades to stop this advance. The 47th Mechanized Brigade is an example, and is often used as a frontline rescue team.
"On social media, we see that the fighting is very fierce, the question is whether the 47th Brigade has enough forces to fight back, or does it need to be supplemented?" - Colonel Reisner said.
A difficult problem arises for Ukraine - it is impossible to find these additional forces. Because, in fact, everyone is engaged in the war, because Russian forces are trying to break through the defenses in different sectors of the front.
"As a result, the Ukrainian command is constantly asking for new resources. The problem is that at some point the resources will run out. And the question is where exactly the 'dam' will break, which can cause a domino effect," Colonel Reisner said.
Meanwhile, Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren expressed her opinion that the prospect of Ukraine losing the conflict with Russia is "absolutely real".
According to Ollongren, Russia was able to recover from the losses faster than most experts predicted and shifted to a military economy and began producing more weapons.
“This has made the situation worse; there is now a real risk that Ukraine will ultimately fail to defeat Russia,” the Dutch defense minister said.
