Police colonel driving car causes fatal accident

A report from Hai Phong City Police on October 4 said that the driver of the Nissan car that caused the series of accidents was Colonel Ta Xuan Phuong, head of the PV28 Movement Department of Hai Phong City Police.

On the morning of October 4, Hai Phong City Police said they had held a meeting to hear a report on a serious traffic accident that left one person dead and one seriously injured on Cau Binh Street, Hong Bang District on the night of October 3.

Confirming with Tuoi Tre, Colonel Pham Duy Dien, Chief of Office and Spokesperson of Hai Phong City Police, sent a report from the City Police, identifying the driver who caused the accident as Colonel Phuong.

According to many people who witnessed the accident, the car driven by Colonel Phuong was traveling at a very high speed. When the accident occurred, it did not stop but continued to move forward, hitting another person going in the same direction and jumping onto the sidewalk.

“When the driver got out of the car, his face was red and he smelled strongly of alcohol. Some people were so angry that they slapped the driver a few times as a warning. A while later, everyone realized that the driver was a city police officer,” said a witness to the incident.

By noon on October 4, the critical victim of the accident, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai (60 years old), had died.
