In Australia, more than 1.5 million people gathered around the Sydney Harbour Bridge to enjoy the famous fireworks display. In the UK, hundreds of thousands of people flocked to the Thames River in London to celebrate the New Year. In New York, the same number of people are estimated to participate in New Year's Eve activities.

In Myanmar, after many years of being banned by the military government from gathering in large public places, for the first time people were able to watch a large public fireworks display in the ancient capital of Rangoon and were free to participate in New Year's celebrations...

In Brazil, more than 2 million people are expected to be present at Copacabana beach, Rio de Janeiro at New Year's Eve (local time, 9am this morning, January 1, Vietnam time) to admire the 16-minute fireworks display.

In North Korea, fireworks lit up the sky over the capital Pyongyang, while South Korea welcomed the new year with 33 traditional chimes from the 15th-century Bosingak bell in Seoul.
