Ensuring social order and national security for border localities
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of October 13, the working delegation of the Northwest Steering Committee led by comrade Le Van Lan - Deputy Head of the Committee had a working session with the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee on the implementation of Directive 14/2005/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on "Cooperation in building a stable and comprehensively developed Vietnam - Laos border".
Receiving and working with the delegation were comrades: Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Le Minh Thong, Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of a number of departments, branches and sectors.

Continuing to implement Directive 14/2005/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister, promoting the achieved results, in recent times under the leadership of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, the special friendship and cooperation between Nghe An and Lao provinces in particular and the Lao PDR in general continued to develop and achieved good results in many fields.
Border and territorial management work recorded close coordination between police stations, border guard companies (Laos) and local authorities on both sides in organizing border patrols, fighting against drug crimes, human trafficking, etc.

This year, the province continues to allocate investment capital for 27 communes bordering Laos, presides over and connects with the neighboring country to implement the Xieng Khouang Provincial Friendship Hospital Construction Project. Nghe An also allocates budget to support the neighboring country to build community cultural houses, ethnic boarding schools, and support the training of Lao officials, students, and students to study at schools in the area. As of the 2015-2016 school year, Nghe An has supported the training of 463 officials from 6 neighboring provinces.
Propaganda work and implementation of the task of collecting martyrs' graves in the 2015-2016 dry season were also focused on, with coordination with neighboring provinces to organize the reception and repatriation of 65 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos.

Besides, Nghe An still faces some difficulties and problems. “The border is long, the terrain is complicated; the commercial infrastructure in the border districts is still poor, some works are seriously degraded, affecting the trading activities of the people in the border; the budget for foreign affairs activities is limited…” - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Minh Thong stated.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Nguyen Xuan Son affirmed that Nghe An always focuses on building good relations with Laos, contributing to strengthening the Vietnam-Laos relationship. "The relationship between Nghe An and Laos's neighboring provinces is stable and friendly, but there are still many issues that need attention for further development." - The Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee added.
He also proposed and recommended to the working delegation on upgrading the border gate system and suitable openings, stimulating trade activities of people on both sides of the border, upgrading Thanh Thuy border gate to an international border gate, proposing to the other side to build the Thanh Thuy-Pac Xan expressway, reviewing invested projects in border communes, supporting village-to-village twinning activities, etc.

Welcoming the results Nghe An has achieved in the process of implementing Directive 14/2005/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister, Deputy Head of the Northwest Steering Committee Le Van Lan noted some current difficulties and suggested that the province continue to implement synchronous solutions, combining economic development with maintaining social order and national security for border localities.
Regarding the proposals and recommendations at the working session, the working delegation accepted them and will submit them to higher-level agencies.
