London stabbing: Not a 'lone wolf' attack

(Baonghean.vn) - Regarding the investigation into the knife attack on the night of August 3 in central London, England that left at least one person dead and five others injured, after interrogating a 19-year-old Norwegian of Somali origin, on August 4, British police announced that there was no evidence that the attack was motivated by terrorism.

Speaking to reporters outside the London Police Department, Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said the woman killed in Russell Square, central London, was an American citizen. The injured victims included two women and three men, of American, British, Australian and Israeli nationality. Three of the five have been discharged from hospital, while the other two are out of danger.

Mr. Rowley said that the knife attack on the night of August 3 was a spontaneous attack. The suspect was determined to have mental problems. A representative of the London police confirmed that there was no evidence that the suspect was radicalized or motivated by terrorism.

Police are searching a flat in north London, and will search a flat in south London, Mr Rowley said.

The suspect in the attack was tasered by police and arrested just minutes after police responded to a distress call. The incident came less than 24 hours after the British government announced it would deploy 600 more armed police officers to patrol London's streets.

The European Police Agency (Europol) has issued a warning to European countries about "lone wolf" terrorist attacks after a series of bloody terrorist attacks that left hundreds of people dead and injured in Paris (France) and Brussels (Belgium) in recent times.
