Radioactive cloud has spread across Southeast Asia

A report on environmental radiation data from the Vietnam National Data Center in the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Organization (CTBTO) network located at the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute on April 13 showed that the radioactive cloud continues to spread across Southeast Asia.

However, the concentrations of radioactive nuclei measured from monitoring stations in Southeast Asia are very low compared to the permissible levels.

According to CTBTO, this cloud is currently moving towards India and down to the Southern Hemisphere.

In Vietnam, the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant Incident Information Handling Task Force (under the Ministry of Science and Technology) also said on the evening of April 13 that the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology had tested the radiation concentration in rainwater (the rain on April 7).

The results showed that radioactive isotopes Cs-137, Cs-134 and I-131 were detected, but at concentrations much lower than the permissible limit, with no impact on human health. Specifically, I-131 was measured at 44.9±3.5 mBq/l while the limit according to Japanese safety standards for children is 100 Bq/l and for adults is 300 Bq/l.

Monitoring stations at the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute also showed that, in addition to natural radioactive isotopes, artificial radioactive isotopes such as I-131, Cs-134 and Cs-137 were also recorded, at levels of 55.4±15.1; 1.7±1.0 and 1.3±0.8 micro-Bq/m3, respectively.

Looking at the monitoring results for two consecutive days, it can be seen that the I-131 radiation level in Da Lat today has decreased compared to April 12 (the observed I-131 concentration is 92.8 ± 26.1 micro-Bq/m3).

According to scientists, this is a very low level, not affecting human health and the environment.
