A very important characteristic of folk literature in general and folk songs in particular is that folk literature is a type of literature that enters life through a performance form, different from written literature. It is this performance form that has created a very useful playground, and the important thing is that through this direct performance form, both the performer and the audience are in direct contact with each other, in the same space, so it is very easy to enter people's emotions and souls, and it is also easy to create emotional contagion. Because of that, it will directly influence people's personalities, emotions, and thoughts.
I find that folk songs of Nghe An express some very important characteristics of the Nghe people’s character, as well as contribute to educating and shaping the character and personality of people. Almost all the themes and topics of folk songs of Nghe An reflect the working life of the Nghe people, for example, singing vi phuong vai (Vo Phuong Vai), phuong non (Non Non), ho keo go (Wood Pulling Ho)… In terms of lyrics, rhythm, and musical elements, we can see this very clearly.

In music, I really like Nghe An's Vi and Giam, especially the Giam songs, we can see the expression of Nghe An's personality quite clearly. Here, through the intense sections and intervals of 4, it shows the determination. Researchers often say that Nghe An's people are determined, straightforward, and violent. Or in the lyrics, we can also see that the lyrics are very fierce and straightforward, very close, showing the lively personality of Nghe An's people. In folk songs from other regions, there is little repetition, like in Vi and Giam folk songs, for example, the sentence "My father just asked what are you doing, my child, my mother also asked what are you doing, my child" is actually not the temporary feelings of the performer anymore, but it shows the character of Nghe An people who always want to emphasize and re-emphasize the points that they think are important, that is the bright spot and that shows the personality of Nghe An people.
In terms of lyrics, I have not seen any other regional folk song genre with lyrics that have such unique sentences as the Nghe An folk songs. For example, the sentence "A hundred years of broken stone and faded gold, burning a pagoda is not as sinful as breaking a curse", which means that trust is extremely important to the Nghe An people...
In general, if we pay attention, there are many things that can be said about the folk songs of Nghe An - a place that expresses the soul and character of the people of Nghe An.
