The cast of 'Farewell to the Past' after nearly 20 years

Produced in 1997, the film by director Dinh Duc Liem attracted great attention from television audiences. The film tells the story of the wandering fate of a woman named Hanh. From the Central region, she brought her old mother and three children to Saigon to make a living. Hanh did all kinds of jobs from construction worker to tailor, sometimes having to live in a cemetery to finally create a career. Taking on the role of Hanh was actress Thanh Nga - previously famous for the films: "The Curse of the River", "When the Cuckoo Calls the Flock"...

Thanh Nga was chosen to play Hanh after the director saw her play a prostitute who was heartbroken to give her child to someone else. While filming "Farewell to the Past", despite being pregnant, the actress still performed heavy scenes such as carrying bricks, riding a cyclo... The director attributed the film's success to Thanh Nga's dedication. Currently, at the age of over 40, she works as a stage director, teaches at the Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts, and regularly acts in television dramas. In her private life, she lives happily with her husband and two sons.

Truong Ngoc Anh plays My, Hanh's eldest daughter. My has feelings for a young writer named Truong but has an affair.with a businessman to advance. Before that, Truong Ngoc Anh won many beauty awards and appeared in the movie "Do you still remember or have you forgotten" by director Nguyen Huu Phan.

After the film, Truong Ngoc Anh became even more successful in the fields of modeling and acting. She made her mark on television and cinema through the films: "Dong tien xuong mau", "Ao lua Ha Dong"... In recent years, she played the main role in a number of action films such as "Huong ga", "Tru sat"... Currently, Truong Ngoc Anh is in a relationship with Vietnamese-American actor Kim Ly, after her broken marriage with actor Tran Bao Son. Actor Minh Hoang plays Tuan, a construction contractor who falls in love with Hanh but is made difficult by his shrewish, mean-spirited wife. In the film, writer Truong is the one who helps Hanh by having a fake marriage with her to help this character have a residence registration in Ho Chi Minh City. Truong's main story is his love relationship with My. Playing Truong's role is the late actor Nguyen Huynh. After the success of "Farewell to the Past", he soon fell into drug addiction because of his friends' enticement and quickly became penniless. During his rehabilitation and relapse, Nguyen Huynh still maintained his passion for acting through several films such as "Love Story", "Blessed Land"... In 2009, he passed away at the age of 43 due to a stroke.

Although it was a small role, the character of Hanh’s old mother impressed the audience with her hardship and sacrifice for her children and grandchildren. This role was played by artist Anh Hoa, an actress with many years of experience playing old people. The artist was once famous for her reformed roles such as the wet nurse in Duong Van Nga, the mother in Kieu Nguyet Nga…

In addition to "Farewell to the Past", artist Anh Hoa also appeared in the films "Nguoi dep Tay Do", "Co tien xuong mau", "Xom nuoc den", "Mua len trau"... Having played more than 200 old roles, at the age of over 70, she still accepts filming schedules.
