Japanese people are 'bored' with sake

October 1, 2016 08:22

Sake makers in Japan are looking for ways to expand export markets as the drink's popularity among the country's people declines.

Japanese government figures show that domestic sake consumption in the country reached 557 million liters in 2014, down significantly from 746 million liters a decade ago. The sake market in Japan continues to shrink as many people switch to Western beverages, so the hope for the sake industry is the export market.
