Prime Minister Abe's party leads in pre-election polls
According to the results of public opinion polls released on November 24, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ruling party is leading in voter support ahead of the general election scheduled for December 14.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced on November 21 that he would dissolve the House of Representatives and call an early election, a move aimed at gauging public reaction to his economic policy of "Abenomics."

According to a poll conducted by the Nikkei business daily and TV Tokyo over the weekend, 35% of respondents said they would vote for Mr. Abe's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its candidate in the upcoming election, while only 9% supported the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), the main opposition party.
A large proportion – around 45% of the 1,031 households surveyed – are currently undecided about which party they will vote for.
According to the above survey results, the majority of voters surveyed disagreed with Prime Minister Abe's economic recovery policies (of which 51% opposed, 33% supported).
Only 16% said that Mr. Abe's policies have had a positive impact on Japan's economic recovery, while 75% denied it. 44% of voters surveyed hoped that "Abenomics" would have a positive effect on stimulating Japan's economic recovery, while 49% said they did not hope so.
Another poll conducted by the Asahi newspaper showed that 37% of respondents said they would vote for the ruling LDP, while only 11% supported the DPJ./.
