The 5th Conference of the Party Central Committee (12th tenure) took place in Hanoi from May 5 to 10, 2017. After working with a high sense of responsibility, promoting democracy and intelligence, the Conference passed 3 resolutions on: "Perfecting the socialist-oriented market economic institution"; "Continuing to restructure, innovate and improve the efficiency of state-owned enterprises"; "Developing the private economy to become an important driving force of the socialist-oriented market economy".

The conference listened to reports on important tasks that the Politburo has resolved since the 4th Conference of the Party Central Committee (Term XII) up to now; at the same time, reviewed the leadership and direction of the Politburo and the Secretariat in 2016, in conjunction with the implementation of Resolution 4 of the Central Committee (Term XII) on Party building and rectification. The Party Central Committee discussed, contributed opinions and decided to discipline cadres.
