Beating wife to death, sentenced to 24 years in prison

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 15, Nghe An Provincial People's Court brought the case of Nguyen Van Xin (born in 1988, residing in Tuong Son commune, Anh Son district) to trial for murder and robbery. The victim was Xin's wife.

From the public interrogation and evidence presented at the trial, Xin's criminal history was clarified as follows: Xin and Ms. HTT (born in 1977, residing in Hung Son commune, Anh Son district) voluntarily married each other and had a child born in 2012. During their time together, Xin was lazy and refused to help his wife and children, so Ms. T cursed at him and conflicts arose.

On the afternoon of August 8, 2013, Ms. T called Xin to meet him at Ao Cac cave in Tuong Son commune to resolve the conflict. During the conversation, Ms. T used insulting words towards Xin and Xin's biological parents, so he pushed Ms. T to the ground, hitting her head on a rock. Ms. T took out a sharp knife hidden in her pocket and stabbed Xin repeatedly, but Xin dodged it and took the knife from Ms. T's hand and threw it into the ditch.

Then Xin used his hands to strangle Ms. T until she passed out. Fearing that Ms. T was not dead, Xin continued to strangle her with Ms. T's shirt until she died. Then Xin dragged Ms. T's body into Ao Cac cave to hide it, then turned around and took Ms. T's motorbike to Vinh city to sell. While the transaction was taking place, the police of Hong Son ward, Vinh city discovered suspicious signs and proceeded to confiscate it.

On August 10, 2013, when Ms. T's family did not see her return, Ms. T's brother went to question Xin. Xin admitted to the crime and led Ms. T's family to the scene of the crime. Xin was then arrested. On April 23, 2014, the Nghe An Province Forensic Psychiatric Assessment Center diagnosed Xin with epilepsy G40.6, which can affect part of her cognition when the disease occurs and requires long-term treatment.

In court, Xin confessed his crime and said that because he was insulted, he could not control himself, which led to the consequences he has today. After considering all the details of the case, the panel sentenced Xin to 20 years in prison for murder and 4 years in prison for robbery. Combining both sentences, Xin must serve a total sentence of 24 years in prison.
