(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of October 3, in Hanoi, the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army and the Vietnam Journalists Association jointly organized a conference to evaluate the information and propaganda work to protect Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty. Attending the conference were comrades: Dinh The Huynh - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Nguyen Bac Son - Party Central Committee member, Minister of Information and Communications; NNguyen The Ky - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department.

The report on information and propaganda work on protecting Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty, the speeches of delegates representing press agencies, especially the directives of the leaders of the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the General Department of Politics and the Vietnam Journalists Association affirmed: Information in the press in recent times has contributed to making the people in the country, the Vietnamese community abroad and international friends better understand the justice, policies and viewpoints of our Party and State in resolving issues related to seas and islands; contributing to creating social consensus in handling and resolving disputes over seas and islands and issues arising at sea by peaceful means; protecting territorial integrity, associated with protecting the Party, protecting the socialist regime, protecting revolutionary achievements, a peaceful environment for national development, and gaining the consensus and support of the international community on Vietnam's sea and island issues.

In particular, the press has contributed greatly to updating information about the event of China brazenly placing the Haiyang Shiyou 981 drilling rig infringing upon Vietnam's continental shelf and exclusive economic zone from May to July 2014.

At the conference, 42 groups and 45 individuals with outstanding achievements in propaganda work on protecting sea and island sovereignty in the past were commended and rewarded. On this occasion, Nghe An Newspaper and reporter Dao Tuan were honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Information and Communications for their outstanding achievements in information and propaganda work on protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
