Evaluation of pure quality rice varieties LH12, LH13 and AN1 in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 1, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences to organize a conference to evaluate the pilot production model of pure quality rice varieties LH12, LH13 and AN1 in Nghe An. Purebred rice varieties LH12 and LH13 were selected by the method of purebred line selection from imported varieties. LH2 variety has a spring crop growing period of 125-130 days; grows well, has good lodging resistance, and is mildly infected with pests and diseases; yield potential is 10.5 to 10.54% higher than Bac Thom No. 7; average spring crop yield is 65-70 quintals/ha, summer crop yield is 58-65 quintals/ha; rice quality is delicious and lightly fragrant.

LH13 variety has a growing period of 115-120 days in the spring crop, 90-95 days in the summer-autumn crop; has high yield potential in both crops (spring crop 68-72 quintals/ha, summer-autumn crop 62-65 quintals/ha); the rice has a strong aroma, is sticky and delicious.

Purebred rice variety AN1 was bred and selected from a hybrid combination by the South Central Coast Agricultural Science and Technology Institute. The growing period in the winter-spring crop is 115-120 days, and in the summer-autumn crop is 90-95 days. The rice plant is hard, has average tillering, is quite resistant to cold and heat, and is free of pests and diseases; high yield.

LH12 rice variety was jointly developed by Nghe An Agricultural Materials Corporation to build a production model in 2014 and 2015 with a total area of ​​over 800 hectares in Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Ha Nam..., of which 240 hectares are in Nghe An, concentrated in Thanh Chuong, Nghi Loc, Nam Dan, Dien Chau and Hung Nguyen districts...

In the summer-autumn crop of 2015, the General Corporation of Agricultural Materials organized a model planting at Kim Lien - Nam Dan Seed Farm. Through monitoring, the above rice varieties have a short growing period, equivalent to the varieties KD18, VT-NA2, Bac Thom No. 7, suitable for the soil and suitable for the production structure in the short-term spring crop and summer-autumn - season in Nghe An. The rice varieties all have outstanding advantages such as: high yield potential or through actual production for high yield; good rice quality, widely adaptable to many lands... Speaking at the conference, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development highly appreciated the trial production model in Nghe An. He requested that businesses and related units continue to have necessary solutions to expand and intensify cultivation, not only in Nghe An but also in other localities.

Concluding the conference, comrade Ho Ngoc Sy, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, affirmed: The LH2 variety has been recognized for trial production, deployed in many localities and highly appreciated, and requested the author to complete the procedures to submit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for evaluation and have an official recognition decision to put into production on a large scale; With the LH13 variety, it is recommended that the breeder agency continue to select excellent individuals to ensure good purity, and it is necessary to research and supplement technical processes so that the variety can better promote its yield potential and quality; in particular, the AN1 variety with good purity and high yield needs to be quickly put into production on a large scale as a "technically advanced" variety before being recognized for trial production, and at the same time, research and supplement appropriate technical processes so that the variety can promote its yield potential, reduce the rate of empty grains as well as improve rice quality./.
