Awakening tourism potential

(Baonghean)Do Luong land is endowed by nature with many beautiful landscapes; and is also known for many historical relics, many legendary places. That potential is waiting to be awakened, discovered...

From Do Luong Town, follow National Highway 15 towards Lat Town (Tan Ky) about 15 km then turn onto the large dirt road to the west of Giang Son Commune to reach Mo Da Lake, where the famous Giang Son hot mineral spring is located. In winter, standing on the shore, you can look down at a basin-shaped valley submerged in a pool of water. The charming nature, the clear blue water reflecting the green hills and mountains of cajuput trees, gives Mo Da Lake a rare beauty. Taking us for a walk around the lake, Mr. Thai Van Cuong, the village chief of Thinh Dong Hamlet, said: The beauty and mystery of Giang Son hot spring has been known to the people in the commune for many years. After that, thanks to word of mouth, every year in the summer, tourists often come in large numbers to bathe in mud.

Giang Son hot spring area is still very wild.

Because of that invaluable resource, the idea of an eco-tourism area was formed in the process of building the tourism industry of Do Luong district. Many investors saw that "heaven-sent" advantage and came to conduct surveys and make plans to invest in construction. However, due to many different reasons, the project to build an eco-tourism area is still just a document. Recently, Ha An Investment, Trade and Tourism Joint Stock Company has had a project to invest in building the Giang Son Hot Mineral Water Tourism Area Project with the ambition of turning this place into a unique tourist destination of Nghe An, which is tourism combined with relaxation with Giang Son hot mineral water spring. At the same time, it will invest in building a bottled mineral water factory here, develop an aquaculture area and build entertainment areas and resort villas. The project is planned to be implemented from 2013 and completed by 2020. If implemented as planned, it will open a new “chapter” for the district’s tourism industry. At the same time, it is an opportunity for local people to develop the service and industrial sectors.

In order for the above project to be implemented on schedule, the Do Luong District Compensation and Site Clearance Council has recently conducted measurements and counting. However, with a total area of nearly 250 hectares, the site clearance process is not easy because it involves both forestry land and agricultural land and residential land of households. Discussing the feasibility of the project, Mr. Vo Van Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the Do Luong District People's Committee, said: Compensation must be done carefully to ensure all legitimate rights of the people. On the district's side, we will create all conditions for investors to operate and have reasonable policies to attract them.

The Giang Son Hot Spring Resort Project is not the only tourism project in Do Luong that is still unfinished. Currently, some other projects such as Truong Bon Historical Relic Site (My Son Commune), Luong Son Communal House Restoration Project (Bac Son) are also behind schedule due to lack of capital. Regarding other tourism potentials, Do Luong currently has 177 relics and scenic spots included in the management list, including 11 provincial-level historical and cultural relics, especially 10 national-level historical, cultural and architectural relics such as Qua Son Temple, Duc Hoang Temple, Phu Nhuan Communal House, Hoang Tran Family Temple, Phu Tho Temple... Do Luong also has many unique folk festivals, demonstrating the culture and martial spirit of the region such as Long Thai Communal House Festival, Duc Hoang Temple Festival. In particular, the Qua Son Temple Festival is held on the 19th and 20th of the first lunar month every year, attracting thousands of visitors and is a regular spiritual destination for many visitors from inside and outside the province.

Talking about the above potentials, Mr. Le Van Luong - Head of the Department of Culture of Do Luong district is very proud. However, he also said: Current tourism development projects are not implemented synchronously and are not many. Tourism activities are also mainly developing spontaneously, the economic value obtained from the tourism industry is not high, not commensurate with the available potential.

In the near future, the Department of Culture of Do Luong district plans to advise the district to plan tourism development. But how the project will be developed, Mr. Le Van Luong determined: Only specific directions will be given when the Truong Bon historical relic complex and Giang Son hot spring eco-tourism area are basically shaped and put into operation...
