The awards ceremony was held after the screening of "Life and Nothing But" (1989), a cinematic masterpiece by director Tavernier.

The film tells the story of Dellaplane, a man whose job is to identify unknown soldiers after World War I.

During that incredibly complex and emotional journey, he becomes romantically involved with a woman searching for her missing husband.

But a dilemma arose when Dellaplane learned that her husband was most likely alive.

The film won "Best Foreign Language Film" at the 1990 BAFTA Awards.

Alberto Barbera, director of the Venice Film Festival, praised director Tavernier as a central figure in French filmmaking.

In addition to directing films, he is also an avid film critic, with a penchant for discovering and evaluating unknown artists.

Director Tavernier was nominated for the Golden Lion for "Round Midnight" (1986) and "L. 627" (1992).

He also won awards at the Berlin and Cannes Film Festivals./.
