Every profession requires professional ethics. But for journalists, professional ethics must be even more highly regarded, because the products of journalists affect many people, many components of society, and have specific characteristics in terms of awareness, ideology, and ethics.

Being careless, chasing cheap demands, reporting sensational news, and attracting attention in the press will leave unpredictable consequences that are not easy to overcome. Therefore, the social responsibility of journalists is always promoted as an indispensable ethical standard for writers.

With a tradition of more than 90 years, Vietnamese journalists have the right to be proud of the growth of the country's press. During the resistance war, many journalists and soldiers were present at the front lines, ready to sacrifice for the cause of national liberation and national reunification.

In the cause of national construction and development, journalists are the bridge to bring the Party's guidelines and the State's legal policies to the people, promote patriotic emulation movements, and motivate all classes of people to overcome difficulties and challenges, especially in the period of innovation and international integration.

The press has become a vanguard force in the fight against corruption, waste and social evils and negativity; it has performed the role of social supervision and criticism, promoting the people's mastery; it has fought to protect sovereignty; it has refuted erroneous and hostile viewpoints, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the Party, the State and the regime. Journalists are also diplomats on the information front so that international friends know that we are a peace-loving nation, enthusiastically building a progressive, civilized and happy world...

It is not an exaggeration to say that journalists are the happiest people, because they have the most dialogue with the public about issues that concern public opinion... To do that, each journalist always strives, studies, equips himself with a rich amount of knowledge, trains his courage and intelligence, determines the social responsibility and professional ethics of a true writer.

The world is constantly changing, and the values, standards of expertise and professional ethics of journalists also change to adapt. A good journalist does not mean just knowing how to "keep himself whole". He must be a person with courage and sensitivity in detecting, judging, and analyzing to find out the nature and trend of the problem.

Professional courage helps journalists "catch" the main pulse of society to have appropriate and effective information. How to make journalistic works have vitality, move public opinion, and gain public support. In other words, with intelligence and passion for the profession, true journalists must recognize and fulfill their social responsibilities and civic duties so as not to disappoint the trust and expectations of the people. That is the ethics of dedication of journalists.

In the digital age, journalists are also more favorable thanks to the strong support of technology; information is also more abundant, conditions for accessing issues are also easier and richer. However, what is the essence, what is the phenomenon, what are the issues that need to be analyzed, explained, and debated to orient public opinion... depends on the ability to grasp, judge and the courage of each journalist.

Knowledge helps journalists stay calm to detect abnormalities in a series of events that, at first glance, seem reasonable. A pure heart and political courage will help journalists be more confident in themselves, not calculating gains and losses in their work but being ready to devote themselves to their profession, staying away from trivial temptations, and fulfilling their social responsibilities as citizens.

Journalists often work independently and proactively, with little constraint or supervision from the collective. Therefore, professional ethics are always considered the foundation of journalists. Without a foundation of ethics, writers can cause unpredictable harm and lose the trust of society.
