(Baonghean.vn)Implementing the policy of vocational training for farmers, Nghe An Province Cooperative Union has gradually trained bamboo and rattan weaving and brocade weaving for the migrants from Ban Ve Hydropower Plant who have settled in the two new communes of Ngoc Lam and Thanh Son, Thanh Chuong District.

Ngoc Lam and Thanh Son are two resettlement communes of Thanh Chuong district, where people's lives are still difficult. The women were very excited to learn brocade weaving directly taught by the Cooperative Union and Hai Van Brocade Cooperative. After 2 months of studying and practicing, the first 90 students of Ngoc Lam and Thanh Son communes produced nearly 200 traditional belts and scarves, which were purchased by Hai Van Cooperative for a value of more than 20 million VND. Hai Van Cooperative is also a unit specializing in supplying raw materials and consuming products, so resettled people do not have to worry about input and output.

Trained, the skills of resettled people are improved.

Ms. Kha Thi Xuan - Xieng Lam village, Ngoc Lam commune, shared: "My family from Tuong Duong resettled here since May 2009. Coming here, transportation is more convenient, but the land for production is less, the soil is of poor quality, only cassava and acacia can be grown, but the efficiency is not high, income is low, life is very difficult. There are no rice fields here, people have to buy rice to eat. Now that our superiors have let us learn brocade weaving, and Hai Van Cooperative specializes in providing fibers and buying products, we are very excited."

Mr. Luong Quang Ba - Vice Chairman of Ngoc Lam Commune People's Committee, said: The whole commune has 1,474 Thai ethnic households from Tuong Duong settling in 14 villages of the commune, the life of resettled people is very difficult. Therefore, vocational training and job creation for workers are of primary concern to the locality. Brocade weaving is close to the customs of the ethnic people, reviving the old traditional profession. In order for the products to meet market demands, there must be a long-term learning and practice process. However, the locality is also concerned that the output is dependent on businesses and individuals for consumption, which is not sustainable. At the same time, the value of the products is not commensurate with the working day. For example, an embroidered skirt product, people have to spend a lot of time but can only sell for 300,000 VND, but there is no stable consumer market and they only sell to those who need it.

Mr. Truong Cong Tich - Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Thanh Chuong district, said: Weaving brocade is a traditional profession of Thai women, so basically people already know the profession, now training to improve skills, techniques, and new designs to suit market demand is necessary. If we only stop at producing common products such as belts and scarves... it will not be effective because the value of a day's work is too low. We must improve skills and produce many new designs to have high value.

The current difficulty of the people is the lack of production tools, the loom part can be made by themselves, but the mold and combs cannot be made. To help people overcome the difficulties in the process of investing in initial production means, Hai Van Cooperative will initially provide combs to people, in the form of support of 100,000 VND/comb, the remaining amount will be gradually deducted from the products imported to the Cooperative. In the long term, if people can do the job, the Provincial Cooperative Union will support people with combs, fully serving their needs and take people to visit and study brocade weaving models in the Northern provinces to transfer technology, moving towards brocade production by machine.

However, to be able to do the job proficiently and produce many new designs, it requires great effort from the people. Households that do well and stick with the job will be given an additional sewing machine by the Cooperative Union to support in the process of completing the product. In the following years, the Provincial Cooperative Union will continue to provide vocational training to cover all villages of the two resettlement communes of Ngoc Lam and Thanh Son, to help people have an initial "fishing rod" so that they know how to create economic value from their own intelligence and diligent hands, not only now but also to create a premise for a long-term life.
