Released independently like the documentary The Last Journey of Ms. Phung, director Nguyen Hoang Diep hopes that Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere can be shown at good times and for a long time so that interested audiences can experience the film to the fullest in theaters.
Nguyen Hoang Diep said: “As a filmmaker who accidentally takes on the role of an independent film distributor for his own film, I think we are doing our best with the simplest and most basic lessons about distribution. Right now, we ask for nothing more than the attention and interest of the audience. If the audience gives Flap Wings a chance, we believe that Flap Wings will achieve good results in theaters. That will be an encouragement not only for the crew but also a door for independent filmmakers, art films, experimental films and I think, not excluding state films either.”
The 98-minute Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere was conceived by Nguyen Hoang Diep for 5 years and produced by an independent film studio specializing in art and experimental films. In addition, the project was also supported by three co-producers from France, Germany, and Norway. The film also received funding from many film funds around the world: World Cinema Fund (Berlin Film Festival, Germany), World Cinema Support (Cannes Film Festival, France), Sorfund (Norway) - the largest film fund in Northern Europe, Fonds Francophone de production audiovisuelle du Sud (France) and CDEF (Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam).
